EMBA EMBAssadors Program 2017

Sustained High Performance over the Long term

Staying #1 for 15 years in Sport and in Business

Special Program for EMBA EMBAssador Program 2017

This intense short program will look in depth at three areas of sustaining high performance over the long term.

It is not enough to have one great day.  Success is about systematically repeating your good days.  In this program we will look at the three underlying ingredients that are necessary in a life of sustained high performance.  We will have a teacher, a CEO and a #1 world ranked sportsman jointly running this program for a select group of committed EMBA graduates on the EMBASSADOR program.

Program Faculty

Fernando Berasteguin, “Bela”, is the World #1 in Padel.  He was the youngest player to achieve a #1 ranking, and he has maintained that world #1 ranking for the following 15 years.  He turned professional at the age of 15.  How has he maintained the inspiration to stay at the top of world padel for all this time?

They call him “el Messi de Padel”. The balls have changed, the rackets have changed, the courts have changed… and through all of these changes Bela has adapted faster and stayed world number 1.  Bela is the author of the book: FERNANDO BELASTEGUÍN: ESTA ES MI HISTORIA: 13 AÑOS CONSECUTIVOS SIENDO NÚMERO 1 DEL MUNDO

Xavier Escales is CEO of ASICS Iberia.  He, together with his close friend and co-CEO have grown ASICS from #8 to #1 in Spain, have reached €150M in turnover.  He is on a mission to reach €400M in 8 years time.  This growth in revenues, in client engagement and in market share has come because Xavier knows how to engage his people.  ASICS is a major sponsor of Bela and together they are developing a strong brand in the Padel market.

Xavier is intensely focussed on Employee Engagement in ASICS and has deliberately created a deeply engaging and inspiring company culture.  You notice it the moment you enter their offices.  (Perfil en Expansion)

Conor Neill is Lecturer in Leadership Communication at IESE Business School, having taught over 20,000 participants over the last 14 years.  He is President of Vistage Spain.  Vistage is the world’s leading CEO development organisation with 21,000 CEO members.  (About Conor Neill)

The Importance of Communicating Effectively

Nothing brings more opportunity into your life than speaking well in public.  Leaders lead people though their words and actions.

We are committed to shaping leaders with the integrity and capabilities to build world-class organisations. Our capacity to communicate within the right form and emotional atmosphere is the key to effectiveness, whether on an interpersonal level in meetings, or when delivering presentations in front of larger audiences. Persuasive communication is a skill that can be developed – much like your golf swing or tennis stroke.

In today’s context, a leader is required to reduce the sense of uncertainty about the future by communicating well and often to his peers, employees and customers. Our focus will be on the communications process and the impact leaders can make on their organisations and communities through effective communication.

There are four steps to good communication:

  1. Have something good to say (own experiences, others experiences)
  2. Say it well
  3. Read your Audience
  4. Intensity (the right words mixed with measured emotion)

Major Themes

Based on lots of practice and individual feedback, this program trains you to become an effective public speaker by addressing the following capabilities:

  • Structuring your content for speech
  • Establishing personal and professional credibility
  • Using emotional and rational intelligence to persuade others
  • The power of storytelling to communicate your message
  • Non-verbal aspects of communication: authority, energy and audience awareness

Communications: Excellent Public Speaking.  Preparing the Logos-Based Speech

Ethos and Pathos: Delivery and Connection

Preparation

In order to get a head start and avoid spending the morning going over introduction material, I provide pre-work material to get your brains engaged before we meet.

I attach 3 worksheets, 3 videos and 1 article.  I’d like you to read the article, watch the videos and print the 3 worksheets and begin filling them in.  I find the “Speech Themes” and “At the End of The Course” worksheets are best filled in over a few days – keep a copy on your desk and add a few thoughts each day.

Leadership Communications Breakthrough 2 Day Program

This document describes the Leadership Communications Breakthrough 2 Day Program and links to the resources needed prior to and after the course.

Leadership Communications Breakthrough is aimed at high potential leaders in corporate, government and entrepreneurial environments.  The course focussed deeply on how your personal identity connects with your professional role and how you can use the systems around you to affect profound, lasting, positive change.

Educating Leaders Who Make a Difference in the World

Leadership is personal.  Where there is trust, there can be leadership. Where there is no trust, vision, mission and values are empty.

Over the course of an engrossing two-day session, you will examine the strengths and weaknesses of your personal leadership style. This leadership training program leverages lessons in leadership from today’s top companies as well as your inner resources and innate skills to help you become a more effective leader.

After the program ends, we will encourage you to work toward achieving the leadership goals that you established during the program. You will be able to use your close network of peers for guidance with ongoing leadership challenges.

You will return to your organization with the confidence critical to take on greater cross-functional responsibilities, an action plan specific to your personal opportunities and challenges, and a comprehensive understanding of how you can contribute to the enhancement of your organization’s performance both today and tomorrow and become the visionary leader tomorrow’s business world will demand.

The course includes a 2 day residential module, as well as 3 1-on-1 coaching sessions setting individual learning goals, short and long term leadership goals and clarity around the daily and monthly disciplines that will build a successful business and personal life.

Personal and Organisational Leadership

Leadership is about seeing a change that is required in the world and bringing together the resources necessary to effect that change.  Leadership means influencing the organisation to face its problems and live into its opportunities.  Leadership is about creating leaders, not about finding followers.

Leadership is not and never has been an easy path.  Leadership is about choosing between 2 bad options, management is about choosing between a good or a bad option.

Leadership is Personal

The top four attributes of leaders who get the best out of the people around them are all personal characteristics:

  1. Honesty (also described as Integrity or Sincere Intent)
  2. Forward Looking
  3. Competent
  4. Inspiring

Visionary Leadership

This document describes the Communications Program: Advanced Visionary Speaker Module and links to the resources needed prior to and after the course.

The Visionary Leader

In times of crisis, we prefer Visionary Leaders. Hope is a strong motivator to current action when the situation is difficult.

The Ethos-Based Speech model uses the force of the leader’s personal and professional credibility combined with hope to move an audience to take action. It is a vital tool for effective leaders when facing times of uncertainty and crisis.

The Workshop pushes the leader to enable those around them to grow their skills and critical thinking about the business.

Preparation

Two elements must be prepared prior to the training:

  1. 3 Minute Ethos-Based Persuasive Speech. Guidelines: The Visionary Speaker
  2. 10 Minute Interactive Workshop: Guidelines: Creating your Workshop
